Najam Sethi Elected PCB Chairman Unopposed

Najam Sethi has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

He was elected as the 30th PCB Chairman in a board of governors meeting at the National Cricket academy in Lahore.

Sethi, also the Pakistan Super League Chairman, had emerged as a clear favorite for the post after Shahryar Khan’s tenure ended. Eighty-three year old Khan's three year tenure ended on 6th August.

No other member from the board of governors filed any nomination paper. The PCB chairman tenure is for three years.

The outgoing PCB Chief Shehryar Khan felicitated Sethi on his unanimous election as Chairman. He said Sethi's experience and guidance will bring Cricket in Pakistan to higher levels and will end Pakistan's isolation in International Cricket.

This is Sethi's second term in charge. Sethi, 69, a former caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, comes from a journalism background. He has also been a driving force behind the Pakistan Super League.

Former Captains Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja and Rashid Latif had earlier issued statements backing Sethi’s appointment as the new Chairman of PCB.

The three had praised Sethi for his efforts to organize the PSL, saying that Pakistan Cricket has already started enjoying fruits of the country's T20 competition.
