Lucas Di Grassi Clinch Formula E Title

Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi claimed his first Formula E Drivers Championship with a seventh place finish in the final race of the season in Montreal.

Jean-Eric Vergne took the top step of the podium after getting past Felix Rosenqvist, who finished second, on the 29th lap of the 37 lap race. Briton Sam Bird finished third.

Di Grassi began the day with an 18 point lead over title Rival Sebastien Buemi and started from fifth on the grid while Buemi struggled in qualifying and started from the 13th spot.

Buemi's car was lightly hit from behind in turn one of the opening lap, knocking his rear tire guard loose, and was forced to pit after race officials flagged him, effectively ending his slim Championship hopes.

Di Grassi earned six points for his seventh place finish while Buemi managed just 11th place, earning him zero points, giving Di Grassi a 181 to 157 victory.

The strong season long performance of Frenchmen Buemi and Nico prost did allow Renault a Constructors Trophy, defeating ABT Schaeffler Audi 268 to 248 points.
