Cyril Despres Wins Silk Way Car Rally

Frenchman Cyril Despres won the silk way car rally for the second consecutive year after the final 100-Kilometer Special between Zhongwei and Xi'an was cancelled due to Heavy Rain.

The arduous 10,000 kilometer silk way rally is finally at an end, with the winning drivers taking centre-stage at closing Ceremony in Beijing, China.

Cyril despres claimed victory in the Car Race while Ayrat Mardeev took top spot in the truck category.

Despres and his co-driver David Castera cruised through the last 261 kilometer of timed racing on the rally's Final Stage to secure their overall win.

Despres covered the overall distance in 41 hours 46 minutes and 25 seconds.

Christian Lavieille continued his excellent summer by finishing second in the cars, a month after winning the Taklimakan Rally in China. The Frenchman finished one hour four Minutes and 39 seconds behind Despres. Han Wei of China finished third in the race.
