Federer Beats Mischa Zverev Bound For Top 16

Mischa Zverev took to the centre court at Wimbledon aiming to reach the fourth round for the first time.

He put in a fine performance but he was meeting Roger Federer at the height of his game and the Swiss triumphed in straight sets 7-6 6-4 6-4.

Zverev mixed his tactics and tried to put Federer off his stride, but the third seed was unruffled, putting on a consummate show and advancing to the fourth round.

Federer will meet Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the Last Eight.

Meanwhile, three-times Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic roared his way into the fourth round with a 6-4 6-1 7-6 defeat of unpredictable Latvian Ernests Gulbis.

The 30-year-old Serb began slowly before taking control and then snuffed out a Gulbis counter-attack in the third set to set up a clash with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Djokovic looked fired up throughout the contest, telling the umpire to "Focus" early on after some close line calls and then bellowing at himself after winning two points in the third-set Tiebreak.

Earlier the top Women's Seed Angelique Kerber survived a scare at the hands of Shelby Rogers 4-6 7-6 6-4, saying that she found it hard to find her Rhythm early and Rogers hit good shots.
