Swiss Indoors Tennis Final: Mpetshi Perricard Sinks Shelton In Final To Clinch Title
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard won his first ATP 500 Title at the Swiss Indoors Tennis in Basel with a 6-4 and 7-6 win over Ben Shelton.
At number 50 in the ATP Rankings, 21-year-old Mpetshi Perricard made history as the lowest-ranked player to win in Basel since it became a tour-level event in 1975.
Neither player had dropped a service game all week but only Mpetshi Perricard walked off court with his serve unbroken.
The Frenchman hit 22 aces and won 85% of points behind his first serve with Shelton unable to force a single break point.
A breakout season for the 205th ranked player entering the year, Mpetshi Perricard lifted his maiden tour-level at the ATP 250 Lyon Open in May and is now two for two in finals.
