Number four seed alexander Zverev of Germany outlasted 13 seed Holger Rune of Denmark in an epic battle to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open.

The match was Zverev’s second straight match to go the distance after he needed to win a first-to-10 fifth-set tiebreaker to beat no. 26 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the third round.

Zverev hit 16 aces with just three double faults and had a 61-60 edge in winners, while rune had 50 unforced errors to his opponent's 39.

Zverev will face number 11 seed Alex De Minuar in the quarters after the Australian Australia upset fifth-seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia.

Ruud is aiming to reach the French Open final for the third consecutive year after losing there in 2022 and 2023.

His quarterfinal match with defending Champion Novak Djokovic will be a rematch of last year's final.

And in the women's draw, Mirra Andreeva beat Varvara Gracheva 7-5 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals, the only unseeded player to go this far in the competition.

The Russian 17-year-old will face Belarusian second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the last eight.
