Coric’s win marked the end of Altmaier’s dream run in Madrid as the German lucky loser failed to contain the Croat, never having forced a break point.
The number 17 seed, who also reached the quarters in Madrid as a lucky loser back in 2017, will next face number one seed and home favourite Carlos Alcaraz in the semis.
