World number two Daniil Medvedev overcame Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp to reach his third straight semi-final at U.S. Open Tennis Tournament.

Van de Zandschulp broke serve in the fifth game before taking the third set on Arthur Ashe Stadium. But he came back in the fourth set, winning all but two of his first-serve points and never facing a break point.

Van de Zandschulp fended off match point in the 10th game, holding his serve to wild applause from a rowdy New York crowd, but Medvedev responded with a quick hold and a break to seal the victory.

Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez continued her U.S. Open dream run on by storming into her first grand slam semi-final with a battling win over Ukrainian fifth seed Elina Svitolina.

It was yet another upset win for Fernandez but hardly a shock considering she had already knocked out four-time major champion Naomi Osaka in the third round and three-time grand slam winner Angelique Kerber in the fourth.

Fernandez has shown that she is no ordinary teenager after registering a string of upsets that have made her a flushing meadows darling.
