Mallorca Open Tennis

World number five Dominic Thiem was forced to retire from his opening match at the Mallorca Open, raising doubts about the Austrian's participation at Wimbledon next week.

Thiem made a fast start against France's Adrian Mannarino to take a 5-2 lead in the opening set.

But in the eighth game, Thiem struck a forehand and appeared to injure his right wrist. After receiving a medical timeout, the 27-year-old decided against continuing the match.

World number two Daniil Medvedev, however, easily advanced 6-4 6-2 over France's Corentin Moutet.

Meanwhile, hot off of winning his French Open Title, Novak Djokovic advanced in the men's doubles competition with partner Carlos Gomez Herrera.

The pair dropped their first set 5-7 to Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic, but came together to win the second set 6-4.

The pair saved a match point in the decider before marching to a 5-7 6-4 13-11 victory.
