Earlier northern beat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while central Punjab overcome southern Punjab in the opening day matches of national T20 cup in in Multan.

A monstrous 180-run partnership for the second wicket between young stud Haider Ali and opener Zeeshan Malik helped defending champions northern slay Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 79 runs.

Haider Ali produced a blinder of a knock as northern set a target of 242.

The right-hander scored 90 off just 51 balls with the help of eight fours and six maximums to put the defending champions in a strong position.

Chasing target of 243 runs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could only score 163-9 in their 20 overs.

Opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan was the only batsman who could provide resistance to the northern bowlers.

He top scored with 62 off 48 deliveries with six boundaries and two sixes to his name.

Musa Khan was the pick of the bowlers for northern as he returned with figures of 3-31 in four overs.
