Federer Scoops Two Big Laureus Awards

Roger Federer was the big winner at the glittering Laureus Awards in Monte Carlo.

The world number one tennis player was handed the sportsman of the year award after winning his fifth Australian Open and Eighth Wimbledon Title in 2017, becoming just the second man in the open era to win Wimbledon without dropping a set.

Federer also picked up the comeback of the year award, in recognition of his return to the game after sitting out the second half of 2016 with a knee injury.

Serena Williams took out the sportswoman of the year prize, after winning a seventh Australian Open Title and netting her record-breaking 23rd grand slam win.

Formula one champions Mercedes won the team of the year award and Sergio Garcia claimed the breakthrough award after his masters success in April.
